Championship Course
Guidonia, Lazio, IT

Marco Simone Golf & Country Club breathes history, not just in its location outside Rome, but in its modern design, built upon land that whispers tales of ancient empires. This is not a course that gently eases you into your round. It challenges immediately, demanding strategic thinking from the first tee, with a layout that favors players who can blend power with precision. Designed in the modern era, and substantially renovated in preparation for the 2023 Ryder Cup, the course unfolds across rolling terrain just outside the city's bustling center. The land is subtly contoured, creating dramatic elevation changes that offer breathtaking views of the Roman countryside. This is a course that rewards thoughtful shot selection, favoring those who can master its strategic doglegs and deceptively placed bunkers. The course has undergone significant reconstruction and enhancements overseen by European Golf Design in preparation to host the Ryder Cup in 2023 - this is an ambitious design that favors a long hitter. While it might not boast a storied history of major championships predating its modern inception, Marco Simone earned its place in golfing lore as the host of the 2023 Ryder Cup. This watershed event, held on Italian soil for the first time, forever cemented its place on the world stage and a place for the course to be watched for years to come. The energy of the competition resonated throughout the grounds, forging an undeniable connection between the course and the future of European golf. Beyond its growing international profile, Marco Simone is known within the greater area of Rome for its active and engaged membership, fostering a welcoming environment that extends from the fairways to the clubhouse. A course to keep an eye on for years to come and where it plants its stake.

Played it in Summer of 2024. Had to rent clubs and I think it came out to about $600 USD for the round with rentals which in my opinion, is just not really worth it for the course other than to say that you played it. The rentals you get are old garbage Callaway clubs, so good luck if you are used to using anything not for the beginner golfer. The course itself was nothing very memorable, but like I said, it has prestige. The pro shop did not have very much merchandise to pick from. Food was okay.
Played shortly after the Ryder cup. Lot of fun.
