Lanark at Lanark Golf Club

Lanark Golf Club occupies elevated moorland above the historic market town of Lanark in South Lanarkshire, roughly thirty miles southeast of Glasgow. The course traces its origins to the late nineteenth century, with Old Tom Morris involved in the early layout. James Braid later redesigned the course in the 1920s, bringing his characteristic strategic bunkering and thoughtful use of natural contours to the moorland terrain. The result is a parkland-moorland hybrid that plays across rolling ground with views extending over the Clyde Valley and surrounding countryside.

The routing takes advantage of the site's natural elevation changes, with several holes playing uphill or downhill and the wind often a factor on the more exposed sections. Braid's design emphasizes placement off the tee, with fairway bunkers positioned to challenge longer hitters and reward accuracy. The greens are typically well-defended and feature subtle borrows that reflect the broader slopes of the land.
