Vines Resort & Country Club

The Lakes course at The Vines Resort & Country Club opened in 1987 as part of a residential golf development located approximately 30 kilometers northeast of Perth in the Swan Valley wine region. Designed by Graham Marsh and Ross Watson, the course was built on relatively flat terrain that was transformed through significant earthmoving and the creation of numerous artificial lakes that give the course its name and define much of its strategic character. The routing incorporates water hazards on more than half the holes, with several lakes positioned to challenge tee shots and approaches on both par fours and par fives. The design emphasizes accuracy over length, with fairway bunkers and water features requiring careful course management. The property's sandy soil provides firm playing conditions typical of Western Australian courses, and the layout features stands of eucalyptus and native vegetation that frame many holes. The Vines has hosted professional tournament golf, including events on the Australasian PGA Tour during the late 1980s and 1990s. The resort complex includes a second course (The Ellenbrook), accommodation facilities, and vineyard operations that reflect the Swan Valley's agricultural heritage. The club serves both members and resort guests, with the Lakes course remaining the property's championship layout. The setting offers views across the valley toward the Darling Range escarpment to the east.
