Island Pointe Course
Knoxville, TN, USA

Island Pointe, carved into the rolling Tennessee landscape near the foothills of the Smokies, presents a deceptively tranquil challenge. Designed by architect Steve Wolfard in 2001, the modern layout prioritizes strategic play over brute force. Undulating Zoysia fairways frame bentgrass greens, rewarding thoughtful club selection and precise approaches. The back nine, particularly, navigates several dramatic elevation changes, making accurate distance control essential to scoring well. Island Pointe is a public facility, yet its dedicated membership cultivate a warm, inviting atmosphere. The spirit of friendly competition is alive and well with a robust schedule of member tournaments, but the course itself remains accessible to all who seek a well-conditioned, enjoyable round. The post-round buzz often centers around the clubhouse grill. Word has it, the 'Smoked Brisket Sandwich' has become a local legend, fueling many a spirited recounting of birdies – and bogeys – from the day.

Probably the best public course in Tennessee. Played here a ton as a student and truly miss it. Such a great layout, hard but fun at the same time. Conditions were always solid. Can't wait to get back next time in the area.
The challenge to fun ratio is perfect. Conditions are phenomenal. Staff is top tier.
Played on the way home from the 2025 Masters. Such a unique track. Loved the variability in the layout. I feel like most “river” courses give you a hole or two on the water, but Island Pointe gives you more than you could ask for. Par 3s are a blast and the 18th is a great finishing hole along the bank.
