Île aux Cerfs Golf Club occupies a small island off the east coast of Mauritius, accessible only by boat from Trou d'Eau Douce. Bernhard Langer designed the course, which opened in 2003, marking the German champion's first significant design work in the Indian Ocean region. The routing takes advantage of the island's natural topography, with holes playing through volcanic rock formations, along coastal edges, and across interior valleys lined with indigenous vegetation including casuarina trees and tropical palms. The course measures approximately 6,500 yards from the back tees and features dramatic elevation changes uncommon for island golf in this part of the world. Several holes play directly along the shoreline with views across the turquoise lagoon toward the Mauritian mainland, while others move inland through more protected corridors. The volcanic rock outcroppings that punctuate the landscape create natural hazards and visual interest throughout the round. Water comes into play on multiple holes, both from the surrounding ocean and from internal water features integrated into the design. The golf club operates as part of a resort experience, with access limited to resort guests and day visitors who arrange boat transfers. The facility includes practice areas and a clubhouse positioned to take advantage of the island setting. The course serves primarily international tourists visiting Mauritius, offering a distinctive golf experience defined by its island isolation and the contrast between tropical landscape and challenging golf terrain.
