Hyannisport Course
Hyannisport, MA, USA

The Hyannisport Club occupies a coastal site on Cape Cod in the village of Hyannisport, Massachusetts, where the course has served a private membership since its establishment in the late nineteenth century. Scottish professional Alex Findlay, an early figure in American golf course design who laid out numerous courses in the Northeast during the 1890s and early 1900s, designed the original routing. Findlay's work typically emphasized strategic bunkering and green complexes suited to the firm, windswept conditions common to seaside sites, and Hyannisport reflects this sensibility within its compact layout. The course plays along relatively modest terrain near Nantucket Sound, with the routing shaped by the property's proximity to the water and the prevailing coastal winds that influence club selection and shot strategy throughout the round. The layout features several holes with views of the harbor and surrounding Cape Cod landscape, and the conditioning reflects the sandy soil and fescue grasses typical of the region's links-influenced courses. The design emphasizes precision and course management over length, rewarding players who navigate the wind and avoid trouble rather than those who rely solely on distance. The club has long been associated with the Kennedy family, whose compound sits nearby, and this connection has contributed to the course's recognition within Cape Cod's golfing community. The membership maintains a traditional private club atmosphere, and the facility includes dining and social amenities consistent with its history as a summer retreat for families with longstanding ties to the Cape.

Hyannisport Club is one of the most fun golf courses I’ve ever played. Beautifully routed by Alex Findlay adjacent to Nantucket Sound, it was brilliantly renovated by Donald Ross, boasting excellent Par-3s, several drivable Par-4s & a particularly great Par-5 16th. Superb greens!

Hyannisport Club is classic Cape Cod golf at its finest. This historic Donald Ross design proves you don’t need massive yardage to create a memorable challenge. The course rewards precision, creativity, and smart course management, with beautifully contoured greens, subtle movement throughout the property, and several holes that offer stunning views of Nantucket Sound. It has an understated charm that only gets better as the round goes on. Timeless, walkable, and incredibly fun, Hyannisport is a course I’d happily play over and over again.
