Hatherly Course
North Scituate, MA, USA

Hatherly Country Club sits in North Scituate, a coastal town on Massachusetts' South Shore roughly midway between Boston and Plymouth. The course occupies rolling terrain characteristic of the region, with elevation changes and natural features shaped by New England's glacial history. The property lies inland from Scituate's harbor and beaches, in an area where residential neighborhoods transition into more wooded, undulating landscape. The club operates as a private facility serving members from the surrounding South Shore communities. Like many New England country clubs established in the early-to-mid twentieth century, Hatherly functions as a social and recreational center for local families, with golf as the primary amenity alongside typical club dining and event spaces. The course layout reflects the constraints and opportunities of its particular site, working with the existing topography rather than extensive earthmoving. The routing moves through a mix of tree-lined corridors and more open areas, with fairways that follow the natural contours of the land. Golfers encounter the elevation changes and occasional water features common to courses built on this type of New England terrain. The design emphasizes playability for a range of skill levels while maintaining enough challenge for competitive club events. Seasonal conditions vary significantly, with the course closing during winter months as is standard practice in this climate zone.

Interesting layout with a lesser known designer. Sits right on the water and isn’t very long so wind ends up being the big defense. Great set of par 4s but not too much variety in 5’s. Not much land was used in building and hasn’t changed much at all since 1899. Range sits pretty far away from clubhouse and range and isn’t the best. Conditions were pretty solid. Can’t stand ending on a par 3, with the clubhouse directly behind it..
