LONGBOAT KEY CLUB
🇺🇸 Longboat Key, FL, USA
Designed by Willard Byrd

Harborside at Longboat Key Club offers two nines—White and Blue—designed by Willard Byrd and opened in the 1960s as part of the resort's original golf facilities on this barrier island along Florida's Gulf Coast. Byrd, a respected Southern architect known for his work in the Carolinas and Florida, routed these courses across flat, coastal terrain interspersed with lagoons, mangroves, and tidal marshes. The layout takes advantage of the island's natural water features, with Sarasota Bay bordering portions of the property and internal waterways threading through multiple holes.
The White and Blue nines play as relatively open resort courses suited to the flat topography, relying on strategic bunkering, water hazards, and prevailing Gulf breezes for challenge rather than elevation change. Palm trees, native vegetation, and views across the bay provide the setting, typical of Florida's west coast golf. The courses serve members and resort guests at Longboat Key Club, which has long been a destination for seasonal residents and visitors drawn to the island's beaches and relaxed atmosphere.
Longboat Key Club also features a second 18-hole facility, the Islandside course, designed by Bill Lockwood. Together, the courses anchor a resort community that has evolved over decades into a mix of private membership and guest play, with clubhouse amenities and dining reflecting the club's dual role as both a residential club and a resort destination.
