Glenway Course
Madison, WI, USA

Glenway Municipal Golf Club occupies rolling terrain on Madison's west side, serving as one of several public courses operated by the city. The layout reflects mid-twentieth-century municipal design priorities: accessible golf on varied topography without excessive length or difficulty. The property's natural contours provide elevation changes and strategic interest across the routing, with mature tree-lined fairways typical of established Midwestern parkland courses. The course plays through neighborhoods that developed around it, creating a familiar urban-municipal character where residential boundaries frame several holes. The design emphasizes playability for a broad range of golfers while incorporating enough variety in hole lengths and angles to maintain interest for regular play. Fairways generally follow the land's natural movement, and greens are modest in size with straightforward contours suited to high-volume public play. Water features appear on select holes, and bunker placement tends toward traditional framing rather than severe penalty. The routing returns to the clubhouse at the turn, a practical consideration for municipal operations. Glenway functions as a neighborhood course within Madison's golf infrastructure, drawing local players for casual rounds, league play, and junior programming. The facility provides straightforward amenities typical of municipal operations: a modest clubhouse, practice areas, and accessible tee times. Its role in the community centers on providing affordable, convenient golf rather than championship conditions or tournament hosting, fulfilling the essential function of a well-maintained public course in a city with an active golf population.
Just underwent a renovation by the city and by the same golf development family that created Sand Valley and Bandon Dunes. Turned it into more of a "golf park" concept. I liked it and will go back. Good 9 hole executive muni course now with renovated greens that are fun and challenging. Likely best 9 hole course in the Madison/Dane Co region and price is right.
