Nick Lombardo, a Northern California architect known for his work on municipal and daily-fee layouts throughout the state, designed the routing to fit within the established Fig Garden neighborhood. The course takes its name from the historic fig orchards that once covered much of this area before Fresno's postwar residential expansion transformed the landscape.
