The Canyons course at TPC San Antonio opened in 2010 as part of a two-course facility designed by Pete Dye. The property sits in the Texas Hill Country northwest of downtown San Antonio, where the landscape features limestone outcroppings, native oak and mesquite vegetation, and the rolling terrain characteristic of the region. Dye routed the course to incorporate natural elevation changes and rocky canyon features, creating a layout that moves through varied topography rather than the flatter ground more common in south-central Texas. The design includes Dye's familiar architectural elements: railroad ties, strategic bunkering, and greens with significant contour. Several holes play along or across canyon corridors, with stone walls and native grasses framing the playing corridors. The routing takes advantage of views across the Hill Country and presents a mix of risk-reward scenarios typical of Dye's work, where aggressive lines offer scoring opportunities but require precise execution. TPC San Antonio serves as the host venue for the PGA TOUR's Valero Texas Open, which rotates between the Canyons and the facility's other course, the Oaks. The Canyons has hosted the tournament in multiple years since the facility became the event's home, bringing professional tournament golf to a course that also accommodates daily play and member use. The club operates under the Tournament Players Club model, balancing competitive golf infrastructure with public access.
