Buena Vista Course
Taft, CA, USA

Buena Vista Golf Course sits in Taft, a small oil-industry city in the southwestern San Joaquin Valley of California. The course was designed by George Mifflin, a California architect active in the mid-twentieth century who worked primarily on municipal and daily-fee layouts throughout the state. The facility serves the local community in an arid, high-desert environment characteristic of Kern County, where summer temperatures regularly exceed one hundred degrees and the surrounding landscape is defined by petroleum infrastructure and sparse vegetation. The routing occupies relatively flat terrain typical of valley-floor sites in this region, with minimal elevation change and limited tree cover. Design features reflect the practical constraints of water availability and maintenance budgets common to public courses in California's interior valleys. The layout provides straightforward golf suited to recreational players and local leagues, with wide fairways and modest hazards that accommodate a range of skill levels. Taft's remote location—roughly forty miles southwest of Bakersfield—means the course functions primarily as a neighborhood amenity rather than a destination facility. The club serves oil workers, retirees, and families from the surrounding area, offering an accessible option for golf in a region where courses are relatively sparse. The setting provides views of the Temblor Range to the west and the open agricultural and industrial landscape that defines this part of the valley.
One of the better if not best muni courses in proximity to Bakersfield. Layout is fun some good holes it’s a muni good greens nothing super special. Some elevation change to keep it interesting I always enjoyed playing there
