Brigantine and Galleon, twin nines nestled within Shipyard Golf Club on Hilton Head Island, offer a Lowcountry golfing experience as steeped in Southern charm as the Spanish ships that once plied these waters. These nines, while not headliners on the national stage, provide a solid, enjoyable test for all skill levels. Designed by George Cobb in the early days of Hilton Head’s golf boom, Brigantine and Galleon present a parkland style characterized by tree-lined fairways, strategic bunkering, and subtly contoured greens. The layout is straightforward and favors those who can work the ball right to left, providing an experience where accuracy trumps sheer distance, though a few heroic carries are required. While the club has not hosted major championships, its dedicated membership prizes camaraderie and a relaxed atmosphere. Shipyard is known for its friendly membership and easy going attitude, a place where good golf is as important as a good time. In keeping with the Lowcountry culinary traditions, the club is know for it's she crab soup recipe, a closely guarded secret passed down through generations of chefs.
