Bray Golf Club

Bray Golf Club sits on the eastern slopes of Bray Head in County Wicklow, occupying elevated ground above the coastal town of Bray, roughly twelve miles south of Dublin. The course was redesigned by Des Smyth and Declan Brannigan, who reconfigured the layout on terrain that rises sharply from the Irish Sea, offering views across the water toward Howth and the Wicklow Mountains inland. The routing works across hillside land that creates significant elevation changes throughout the round, with several holes playing uphill or downhill along the contours. The topography defines much of the playing character. Golfers encounter stances on sloping lies and approach shots to greens set at varying elevations, demanding thoughtful club selection and course management. The exposed position means wind is a regular factor, particularly on holes along the higher sections of the property. The layout includes a mix of shorter holes where accuracy matters more than distance and longer tests where the slopes can assist or penalize depending on ball placement. Bray serves a membership drawn largely from the surrounding Wicklow and south Dublin communities. The club operates as a parkland course with mature tree cover in places, though the upper reaches open to more exposed ground. The setting provides a contrast between wooded lower sections and the more windswept character near Bray Head, giving the course variety in both visual character and playing conditions across the eighteen holes.
