Blackrock/The Pointe at Sunbrook Golf Club

Sunbrook Golf Club operates three nine-hole courses in St. George, Utah, with Blackrock and The Pointe forming one of the available eighteen-hole combinations. John Harbottle designed the facility, which opened in stages during the 1990s as part of the area's golf development boom. The courses occupy terrain characteristic of southwestern Utah's high desert landscape, where red rock formations, volcanic outcroppings, and native vegetation define the visual character.

Blackrock takes its name from the dark basalt rock that appears throughout its routing. The nine plays through rolling terrain with elevation changes that provide views of the surrounding red rock country. The Pointe nine features more dramatic topography in places, with holes routed around and over desert landforms. Both nines incorporate the natural rock features into their design, with fairways carved through the native landscape and greens positioned to emphasize the desert setting.

Sunbrook serves primarily as a public facility catering to St. George's substantial winter golf market and the steady stream of visitors drawn to the region's climate and scenery. The courses offer a more accessible alternative to some of the area's resort layouts while maintaining the distinctive desert character that defines golf in this part of Utah. The combination of Blackrock and The Pointe provides variety in terrain and shot requirements across eighteen holes, with the volcanic rock and red sandstone backdrop creating a setting distinct from traditional parkland or links golf.
