Bidwell Park Course
Chico, CA, USA

Bidwell Park Golf Club occupies land within one of the largest municipal parks in the United States, situated in Chico in California's northern Central Valley. The course was designed by Jim Summers and takes its name from the expansive Bidwell Park that surrounds it, a property donated to the city in the early twentieth century by Annie Bidwell, widow of town founder John Bidwell. The setting provides a parkland character with mature trees and relatively flat terrain typical of the valley floor, though the landscape includes gentle undulations and creek corridors that add variety to the routing. The layout reflects the straightforward design sensibilities common to municipal courses built to serve a broad golfing public. Tree-lined fairways define playing corridors, and the routing makes use of the natural drainage patterns and existing vegetation. Water features appear on several holes, and the mature canopy creates both strategic interest and aesthetic appeal throughout the round. The course serves as an accessible facility for Chico residents and visitors, offering a traditional parkland experience in a region where golf courses often contend with summer heat and the need for efficient irrigation management. Bidwell Park Golf Club functions as a community amenity within the larger park system, hosting local tournaments and providing a venue for everyday play. The club maintains a casual, welcoming atmosphere consistent with its municipal character, and the course remains a familiar destination for golfers in the northern Sacramento Valley seeking a tree-lined round in a historic park setting.
Solid muni in a beautiful setting in upper Bidwell Park. Course had to be renovated for safety some years ago so there are some awkward holes and tee shots. Small greens too small in some cases they have lost the edges to time and the greens have shrunk course would be better with some green renovations. Fun course very busy.
