Bend Golf & Country Club

Bend Golf & Country Club occupies a distinctive setting in the high desert of central Oregon, where the landscape combines volcanic terrain with stands of ponderosa pine and juniper. Chandler Egan designed the course in the late 1920s, bringing his characteristic strategic sensibilities to a routing that works across rolling, rocky ground at approximately 3,600 feet elevation. Egan, who had earlier redesigned Pebble Beach and created several notable courses in the Pacific Northwest, crafted a layout that emphasizes angles and positioning over sheer length, with greens that reward thoughtful approach play. The course reflects its high desert environment throughout, with native grasses, lava rock outcroppings, and views toward the Cascade Range visible from various points on the property. The routing moves through varied elevation changes, and several holes play across or alongside natural draws and ridges that define the property's character. Egan's design philosophy of offering multiple routes and rewarding strategic thinking remains evident in the hole corridors and green complexes. Bend Golf & Country Club serves as a private facility and has been part of the Bend community since its founding era, when the town was considerably smaller and more isolated than the resort destination it has become. The club maintains a traditional membership culture focused on golf and family recreation.
