Awbrey Glen Golf Club

Awbrey Glen Golf Club sits on the western edge of Bend, Oregon, occupying elevated terrain that overlooks the city and the Cascade Range beyond. Gene "Bunny" Mason designed the course, which opened in the late 1990s as the centerpiece of a residential community. Mason, a Pacific Northwest architect with numerous regional designs, routed the layout across rolling, ponderosa pine-studded land characteristic of central Oregon's high desert plateau. The property's natural elevation changes and volcanic soil provide the foundation for a course that moves through varied terrain. The routing takes advantage of the site's topography, with holes playing across ridges and through natural corridors of pine and juniper. Views extend westward toward the Three Sisters and other Cascade peaks, a backdrop common to Bend-area courses but particularly prominent from Awbrey Glen's higher vantage points. The design incorporates the region's native grasses and lava rock features, reflecting the high desert environment that defines golf in central Oregon. Awbrey Glen operates as a private club serving its residential membership. The course represents one of several upscale golf communities that developed in the Bend area during the region's growth period in the 1990s and early 2000s, when the city emerged as a destination for outdoor recreation and resort living. The club maintains a relatively low profile compared to some of central Oregon's resort courses, focusing primarily on member play rather than outside tournaments or national rankings.
