Aspen Lakes Golf Course

Aspen Lakes Golf Course sits on the eastern edge of Sisters, Oregon, where the high desert plateau meets the Cascade Range. Designed by Bill Overdorf and opened in the late 1990s, the course occupies former ranchland at roughly 3,200 feet elevation, with the Three Sisters volcanic peaks providing a dramatic western backdrop. The routing takes advantage of the natural terrain, incorporating native ponderosa pines, juniper, and sagebrush throughout the property, along with several small lakes and wetland areas that give the course its name. The layout plays across gently rolling terrain characteristic of Central Oregon's volcanic landscape, with fairways defined by lava rock outcroppings and native grasses. Overdorf's design emphasizes strategic options rather than forced carries, allowing multiple routes on many holes while rewarding accurate placement. The course stretches over 7,300 yards from the back tees, though the high-altitude setting and typically firm conditions affect distance calculations. Several holes run along Whychus Creek, which flows through the northern portion of the property. Aspen Lakes operates as a public facility and serves both destination golfers visiting the Sisters area and regional players from Bend and the surrounding communities. The course remains playable much of the year despite winter snowfall, benefiting from the area's dry climate and abundant sunshine. The setting offers views across the high desert toward the Cascade peaks, with Mount Bachelor, Broken Top, and the Three Sisters visible from various points on the course.
