The course has evolved through the contributions of several architects over its history. F.G. Hawtree provided early design work, while subsequent modifications came from Taylor, Eddie Hackett, and Pat Ruddy's associate Mel Flanagan working under the Connaughton name. This layered design history reflects the club's ongoing efforts to refine the routing and make full use of the natural duneland terrain. The layout runs through classic linksland topography, with holes routed among sandhills and native grasses characteristic of Ireland's east coast. The property features elevation changes and natural contours that create variety in stance and shot requirements.
