The Apple Course at Lyman Orchards Golf Club occupies land that has been farmed by the Lyman family since 1741, making it one of the oldest continuously operating family farms in the United States. Designed by Connecticut-based architect Mark Mungeam and opened in 1994, the course weaves through the working orchard property in Middlefield, situated in the central Connecticut River Valley. The layout takes advantage of the gently rolling terrain characteristic of this agricultural landscape, with fairways bordered by apple trees and stone walls that reflect the region's farming heritage. Mungeam's design incorporates the natural topography and existing orchard infrastructure, creating a parkland-style course that balances playability with strategic interest. The routing moves through varying elevations, and several holes feature views across the orchards and surrounding countryside. Water comes into play on multiple holes, and the bunkering follows traditional New England styling. The course serves as the championship layout at Lyman Orchards, which also operates the Robert Trent Jones–designed Jones Course on the same property. The club maintains its connection to the working farm, and the orchard setting provides a distinctive backdrop throughout the round. Lyman Orchards remains a popular public facility in central Connecticut, drawing golfers from the Hartford and New Haven areas. The Apple Course hosts various regional amateur competitions and serves as a venue for collegiate golf in the state.
