Apes Hill Course
Apes Hill, St. James, BB

Apes Hill occupies elevated terrain in the parish of St. James on Barbados's western plateau, approximately 1,000 feet above sea level. The course was developed by Landmark Land Company, a firm with experience in resort and residential golf communities, and opened in 2009. The property sits inland from the Caribbean coast, taking advantage of the island's highest accessible land to create a layout distinct from Barbados's coastal courses. The routing works across rolling topography with significant elevation changes, offering views toward both the Caribbean Sea to the west and the Atlantic Ocean to the east on clear days. The design incorporates the natural contours of the Barbadian landscape, with fairways moving through areas of native vegetation and coral stone outcroppings characteristic of the island's geology. Trade winds influence play throughout the year, adding a strategic element to club selection and shot shaping. The course serves as the centerpiece of a residential development and operates as a private club with membership extending to property owners and approved members. The facility includes practice areas and clubhouse amenities typical of Caribbean resort-style golf communities. Apes Hill represents one of the more recent significant golf developments in the eastern Caribbean, designed to appeal to both residents and visitors seeking golf in Barbados's interior highlands rather than along its more developed coastal areas.
Apes Hill, what a gem. This is another one that comes with a story. Andy and I had played Royal West Moreland and Sandy Lane and I wanted to find a way to get on Apes Hill, at the time it wasn’t open to visitors as the reopening had only happened about 2 weeks before we arrived. We somehow got the guy in the pro shop at Sandy lane to book us a two ball the following day! I couldn’t believe it. This course was amazing, you could tell it wasn’t completely finished but wow. It was so damn pure, the tee boxes the fairways the rough it just had the level of quality above others I have played. Thi was a more modern experience, Brand new GPS buggies, grass range with pyramid of balls, alignment sticks, tees and anything else you could need laid out so neat ready to be used. The pro shop was new but nice same as the club house, I picked out one of my favourite polos to this day from apes hill. I can’t explain how great a round this was, just getting to be one of the first people to play it, being in prime golf era where Andy and I were bang up for everything. Seriously great day. To top it off there were Monkeys on the course!!! So elite!
