Pleasant Valley Country Club

Pleasant Valley Country Club occupies rolling terrain in the western part of Little Rock, where Joe Finger routed the course in the mid-1960s. Finger, a Texas-based architect who worked extensively across the South and Southwest during that era, designed layouts that typically emphasized strategic bunkering and greens that reward precise approach play. The property features moderate elevation changes characteristic of the Arkansas River Valley region, with mature hardwoods framing many holes and creating definition between corridors. The routing moves through varied topography, with several holes playing along natural ridgelines and others descending into lower-lying areas. Finger's design incorporates traditional par distribution and makes use of the land's movement to create interest without relying on severe slopes. Water comes into play on select holes, and the bunkering style reflects the architectural conventions of the period—clean-edged sand hazards positioned to challenge both tee shots and approaches. Pleasant Valley has served as a private club for the Little Rock community since its opening, hosting regional amateur competitions and club championships over the decades. The course provides a straightforward test of golf within a parkland setting, where tree-lined fairways and well-maintained conditioning define the playing experience.
