Always in pristine condition, with a layout that holds up no matter how many times you play it. The back nine is particularly memorable - looking out across the marshes with the Atlantic City skyline in the distance - a unique contrast of natural beauty and neon energy.

Francis A Byrne is the best municipal golf course I have ever played. I found myself saying “wow - I love this golf course” over and over again. The greens steal the show throughout, starting with the long Biarritz on 2 (a hole I unfortunately made a mess of).

Skyway is one of the best munis in the NYC/NJ area, even as a 9 hole course. I like to call it the working man’s liberty national. You’ll be hard pressed to find an even lie, and despite all the play it sees the greens crew does an incredible job at upkeep.

A completely different experience compared to most golf in NJ. Massive fairways and greens make the course super playable and a blast. Only knock is the bunkers have way too many rocks and I have damaged wedges from trying to get out.

How we rank
This ranking uses each golfer’s value rating, on a 0.5–5 scale. Value is how worth the price a golfer felt the round was. Only public and guest-friendly courses are ranked, since private clubs rarely have value ratings. Every golfer counts once per course: repeat rounds are averaged first, then the course score is the average across golfers. A course needs value ratings from at least 5 different golfers. Ties go to the course with more golfers, then the higher Course Vaults score. Only open courses with a published Course Vaults score (at least 5 explicit ratings) are eligible, and a page is published only when at least 5 courses qualify. State pages include courses across New Jersey. Rankings refresh about hourly.
