Willie Park Jr.

Willie Park Jr. was a Scottish professional golfer who won The Open Championship twice before building one of the world's first truly international golf course design practices. Born in 1864, Park established himself as a successful equipment maker and golf writer before turning to architecture in the early 20th century. His designs spanned Britain, North America, and continental Europe, making him among the earliest architects to practice on a global scale.

Park's portfolio includes some of the most enduring courses of the Golden Age. His work at Maidstone Club's West course in East Hampton and Olympia Fields North outside Chicago demonstrates his versatility across American landscapes. In his native Scotland, he designed Gullane Golf Club's celebrated No. 1 and No. 2 courses. His North American commissions ranged from the Canadian prairies at Calgary Golf & Country Club to New England classics like Woodway Country Club and Milton Hoosic Club.

His designs in England include Huntercombe and Notts. Golf Club (Hollinwell), while his international reach extended to Monte-Carlo and Dieppe-Pourville in France. Park's prolific output across multiple continents helped establish golf architecture as a distinct profession. He was inducted into the World Golf Hall of Fame in 2013.
