Mackenzie Ross

Mackenzie Ross was a golf course architect whose work spanned several decades across Europe, leaving a portfolio concentrated in the British Isles and the Iberian Peninsula. With no extensive biographical record readily available, his career is best understood through the courses he designed and remodeled.

Ross is perhaps most recognized for his post-war redesign of the Ailsa course at Trump Turnberry Resort in Scotland, transforming the layout after wartime use into a championship venue that remains highly regarded internationally. Beyond this signature project, his work extended across Portugal—including Estoril, Vidago Palace, and Furnas in the Azores—as well as Spain, where he designed courses at Real Club de Golf de La Coruña, Real Club de Golf Las Palmas, and Maspalomas. He also contributed to layouts in Belgium (Parc at Royal Golf Club of Belgium), France (Mazamet La Barouge), and the Channel Islands (L'Ancresse on Guernsey). His involvement with Royal Burgess in Edinburgh further demonstrates his connection to Scottish golf's historic fabric.
