Jean Garaialde

Jean Garaïalde, born in 1934, is a French professional golfer who competed on the European circuit during the 1960s and later transitioned to golf course architecture. He notably won the Basque Coast Open, a professional tournament held at Biarritz Golf Club from 1967 to 1969.

As an architect, Garaïalde developed a substantial portfolio across France, with designs concentrated in regions from Aquitaine to Provence. His work includes courses at Golf de La Wantzenau in Alsace, where he designed both 12- and 18-hole layouts, and Golf Blue Green Pau Artiguelouve in his native Aquitaine region. Other notable projects span diverse French landscapes: Golf du Cognac in Poitou-Charentes, Golf d'Arc en Barrois in Champagne-Ardenne, and Provence Country Club in Saumane de Vaucluse.

His designs also include Golf de la Porcelaine in Limousin, Golf Grand Avignon in Vedène, and Golf du Roncemay in Aillant-sur-Tholon. Garaïalde's work reflects a career dedicated to expanding golf infrastructure throughout France during a formative period for the sport in the country.
