Frank Pennink

Frank Pennink (1913–1983) was a British amateur golfer, sports journalist, and golf course architect whose work spanned multiple continents. Active primarily in the mid-to-late 20th century, he designed or contributed to dozens of courses across Europe, Asia, and North Africa.

His portfolio includes several Algarve landmarks, most notably the Old Course at Vilamoura, which opened in 1969 and hosted the Portuguese Open in 1976. Pennink also designed Pinhal in Vilamoura and Aroeira I near Lisbon. Beyond the Iberian Peninsula, his reach extended to courses in Sweden (Södra at Halmstad and Delsjö), the Netherlands (Edese and De Haar), Germany, Denmark, France, and as far afield as Morocco (Royal Tanger) and Singapore (the New course at Singapore Island Country Club and Tanjong at Sentosa).

In England, Pennink worked on both new layouts and modifications at clubs including Saunton (East and West), Barnham Broom (Hill and Valley), Lamberhurst, and North Downs. His designs often reflected a sensitivity to local landscapes, whether links, parkland, or Mediterranean settings.
