Devereux Emmet

Devereux Emmet (1861–1934) was a pioneering American golf course architect whose career spanned the formative decades of golf in the United States. Working primarily across the Northeast, Emmet designed more than 150 courses worldwide during an era when the game was establishing its foothold in American culture. His portfolio concentrated heavily in New York, Connecticut, and surrounding states, where many of his layouts remain in play today.

Among Emmet's notable works are Garden City Golf Club, Congressional Country Club's Blue Course (which has hosted multiple U.S. Opens and a PGA Championship), and a broad collection of metropolitan New York-area designs including Huntington Crescent Club, Leatherstocking, and St. George's Golf & Country Club. His reach extended to Congressional's Gold Course, Wee Burn Country Club, and Pelham Country Club, demonstrating both versatility and sustained demand for his design sensibilities throughout the Golden Age of golf architecture.
