Clyde Johnston

Clyde Johnston is a prolific golf course architect with a substantial portfolio concentrated in the Southeastern United States, particularly South Carolina, North Carolina, Georgia, and Florida. His work spans several decades and includes more than three dozen courses ranging from private clubs to resort layouts and military facilities.

Johnston's designs emphasize playability while working sensitively with natural terrain. His South Carolina work includes Cherokee Plantation near Yamassee, Oak Point at Kiawah Island Golf Resort, and Wexford Golf Club on Hilton Head Island. In North Carolina, he designed courses at Brunswick Plantation & Golf Resort (including the Azalea and Magnolia nines) and Glen Dornoch Waterway Golf Links. His portfolio extends to Georgia projects like Hampton Golf Village and Pine Lakes at Jekyll Island Golf Club, plus several Indiana courses including Champions Pointe and Covered Bridge.

Many of Johnston's layouts serve as accessible daily-fee or resort courses that introduce golfers to the Lowcountry landscape.
