YORK GOLF CLUB
🇺🇸 Columbus, OH, USA
Designed by Barry Serafin, George Sargent, Jack Kidwell

York Golf Club sits in Columbus, Ohio, and traces its design lineage to George Sargent, a British-born professional who won the 1909 U.S. Open and later became a respected course architect in the early twentieth century. The layout was subsequently modified by Jack Kidwell and Barry Serafin, regional architects who worked extensively in Ohio and the Midwest during the mid-to-late twentieth century. This layering of design eras gives the course a blend of classic routing principles and more modern strategic elements.
The property occupies rolling terrain typical of central Ohio, with mature tree corridors framing fairways and modest elevation changes that add visual interest and strategic variety. The routing takes advantage of natural contours, and greens feature enough movement to reward accurate approach play. Water comes into play on select holes, and bunkering reflects both the original design intent and later refinements.
York Golf Club operates as a private facility and serves its membership with traditional club amenities. The course provides a straightforward test of golf without excessive length or manufactured difficulty, emphasizing placement and course management. It remains a steady presence in the Columbus golf community, offering a layout shaped by multiple generations of architectural thought and maintained for member play throughout the season.
Reviews
What York lacks in total yardage it makes up for in character. Greens that roll well but are hard to read even for the members and the course has really good par 3 variety challenging different clubs in your bag on all 5 of them. The first 6 holes are solid in design but basic in layout with little visual elevation change. However, holes 7-12 are are both unique and a ton of fun, highlighted by holes 10 and 11; a long different par 4 followed by a downhill tough but fair par 3 with a small landing zone. Overall the back 9 is simply a ton of fun and is certainly one of the hillier 9s in central Ohio. It’s certainly not the nicest or most prestigious club in the greater Columbus area but its fun, inviting layout with really solid greens make up for what the course lacks in other areas.
A solid private course, if unspectacular. Great for every day play
