THE WOODSTOCK INN & RESORT
🇺🇸 Woodstock, VT, USA
Designed by Robert Trent Jones

The Woodstock Country Club course, part of The Woodstock Inn & Resort in central Vermont, was designed by Robert Trent Jones and opened in 1969. Jones routed the course across rolling terrain characteristic of the Vermont piedmont, incorporating natural elevation changes and wooded corridors into a layout that takes advantage of the property's pastoral New England setting. The design reflects Jones's mid-career approach to resort golf, balancing strategic interest with playability for guests of varying abilities.
The course occupies land adjacent to the historic village of Woodstock, one of Vermont's most preserved and picturesque towns. The routing moves through a mix of open meadowland and mature hardwood forests, with several holes playing along or across modest elevation shifts that provide both visual interest and strategic variety. Jones shaped greens with his characteristic contouring and positioned bunkers to define preferred angles of approach, though the overall character remains more approachable than his championship-caliber designs from the same period.
The Woodstock Inn itself has deep roots in Vermont hospitality, and the golf course functions as an integral part of the resort experience rather than as a standalone destination facility. The property attracts a mix of resort guests and local members, with the course serving as a centerpiece for warm-weather recreation in a region better known for winter sports. The setting emphasizes the natural beauty of the Vermont landscape, with mountain views visible from several points on the course and a quiet, unhurried atmosphere that reflects the character of the surrounding community.
Reviews
My rating may be slightly biased. But, these are the hallowed grounds where I learned the game I’ve become so passionate about. I’ve walked 100+ rounds at this course, broke 90 for the first time, made my first birdie, and you get the point… thus, it has a special place in my heart. It’s somewhere I’d like to play my final round of golf when that time inevitably comes - though, may that day not come, for a long, long while.
