CANTIGNY GOLF
🇺🇸 Wheaton, IL, USA
Designed by Roger Packard

Cantigny Golf, carved from the estate of *Chicago Tribune* publisher Robert R. McCormick in Wheaton, Illinois, offers a diverse 27-hole golfing experience where local pride runs deep. Its three distinct nines, Woodside, Lakeside, and Hillside, present a challenge sculpted in the late 20th-century mold.
Woodside and Lakeside, the original 18 holes, meander through gently rolling terrain punctuated by mature trees and strategically placed water features. This parkland-style layout rewards thoughtful play and a deft touch around the greens. While not a brute test of power, its tree-lined fairways and subtle elevation changes demand accurate shot-making. Its routing lends itself to the eye, though rarely will a golfer be tested with blind shots.
Architect Roger Packard, with later enhancements by Jerry Rich, shaped Cantigny's golfing landscape. While not a regular host of major championships, Cantigny has long served as a popular and well-regarded public facility within the Chicago metropolitan area, offering a championship-caliber experience accessible to all. A round at Cantigny is often followed by a visit to the McCormick Museum on the grounds, blending golf with a touch of local history.
