Woods/Lake Course
Middleton, WI, USA

Pleasant View Golf Club sits in Middleton, a suburb just west of Madison, Wisconsin, where the terrain transitions from glacial drumlin country to the flatter agricultural lands of Dane County. The course was designed by Art Johnson, a Wisconsin-based architect active primarily in the mid-to-late twentieth century who built numerous courses across the upper Midwest. Johnson's work typically emphasized playability for a wide range of golfers while incorporating the natural landforms available on each site. The Woods/Lake designation suggests a routing that moves through two distinct landscape zonesβlikely wooded corridors that provide definition and seclusion on some holes, and open stretches where water features come into play. This combination is common in southern Wisconsin courses, where mature hardwood stands and constructed or natural ponds create strategic variety. The property's setting near Madison means the course serves both local membership and visitors drawn to the area's concentration of golf facilities. Pleasant View operates as a semi-private or daily-fee facility, typical of many suburban clubs in the region that balance member access with public play. The course reflects the straightforward design principles of its era, offering a familiar test without excessive length or severe hazards, suited to recreational golfers and league play that form the backbone of Midwestern golf culture.
I don't get it...Pleasant View is always pack and I don't understand why. It is more expensive than it should be and outside of a few very far away views of the Wisconsin State Capitol it is nothing special. Maybe I am missing something about the place because lots of people play here. For me, I would just rather pay an extra few bucks and play U Ridge or drive the extra miles to Lake Wisconsin CC or even Six Mile.
