KINGSMILL COUNTRY CLUB
🇺🇸 Williamsburg, VA, USA
Designed by Curtis Strange, Tom Clark

The Woods Course at Kingsmill Country Club in Williamsburg, Virginia, opened in 1995 as the property's second championship layout. Tom Clark designed the course in collaboration with Curtis Strange, the two-time U.S. Open champion and Virginia native who grew up playing competitive golf in the region. The course was conceived to complement Kingsmill's original River Course while offering a distinctly different playing experience rooted in the wooded terrain that characterizes much of the Virginia Tidewater area.
The routing moves through dense hardwood forests and rolling topography, creating a more secluded and intimate atmosphere than its riverside counterpart. The design emphasizes accuracy and course management, with tree-lined fairways that reward strategic positioning and penalize wayward shots. Elevation changes throughout the property add dimension to club selection and approach play. Water features appear on several holes, integrated naturally into the landscape rather than dominating the visual character.
Kingsmill Country Club sits near Colonial Williamsburg and has long served as a residential golf community with multiple courses. The Woods Course provides members and resort guests with a traditional parkland test that contrasts with the River Course's tournament pedigree and open, wind-affected holes along the James River. The layout reflects Curtis Strange's playing philosophy—emphasizing shot-making, strategic variety, and the importance of controlling ball flight in wooded corridors. The course remains a solid complement within Kingsmill's multi-course offering in the historic Williamsburg area.
