Woodlands Club Course
Falmouth, ME, USA

The Woodlands Club occupies rolling terrain in Falmouth, a town just north of Portland along the coast of southern Maine. The course sits amid mixed hardwood and conifer forest typical of the region, with elevation changes that provide natural movement through the property. The layout takes advantage of the wooded character while opening strategic corridors for play, creating definition through the tree-lined corridors rather than relying on extensive bunkering or water features. The routing works through the topography with holes that rise and fall across the landscape, asking players to manage uphill and downhill lies while navigating doglegs shaped by the forest edges. Several holes play along ridgelines or drop into lower sections of the property, and the natural contours influence both tee shot placement and approach angles. The design emphasizes position over distance, with premium on accuracy given the tree-framed fairways. As a private club in the Portland area, Woodlands serves a membership drawn from the surrounding communities and maintains a traditional club atmosphere. The course provides a straightforward test of golf suited to the New England setting, where seasonal play and maintenance practices reflect the regional climate. The club operates within the established network of private courses in southern Maine, offering members a home course that balances challenge with playability across varied skill levels.

Anyone who has played here will agree itβs one of the most challenging courses in the Northeast US. Not a single wide open shot on the course, each one requires attention and accuracy. Iβve never played a course thatβs so βin your faceβ tough. But itβs still quite fair and extremely fun. Conditions are always excellent and the staff and membership are great. This place is a hidden gem!
