SUNRIVER RESORT
🇺🇸 Sunriver, OR, USA
Designed by Robert Trent Jones, Jr.

The Woodlands course at Sunriver Resort opened in 1981 as Robert Trent Jones Jr.'s second design for the central Oregon property, following his Crosswater course that would come later. The layout occupies forested terrain characteristic of the Cascade Range foothills, with tall ponderosa pines framing fairways and the Deschutes River watershed providing both scenic backdrop and strategic water features throughout the routing.
Jones designed the course to accommodate resort play while maintaining strategic interest for accomplished golfers. The terrain features modest elevation changes, and the architect routed holes through corridors of mature forest that demand accuracy from the tee while offering generous landing areas for those who find the fairways. Water comes into play on several holes, and the high desert climate means firm, fast conditions during summer months. The course measures over 6,800 yards from the back tees with a par of 72.
Sunriver Resort sits approximately fifteen miles south of Bend in Oregon's high desert country, where the climate provides a long playing season despite the elevation. The resort developed as a destination property in the 1960s and 1970s, and the Woodlands course serves as one of multiple golf options on the property. The setting offers views toward the Cascade peaks to the west, and the ponderosa pine forest creates a distinctive mountain golf environment that contrasts with the links-style courses found along Oregon's coast.
