PHILADELPHIA CRICKET CLUB
🇺🇸 Flourtown, PA, USA
Designed by A .W. Tillinghast

Wissahickon, the jewel of the Philadelphia Cricket Club, stands as a testament to a bygone era of bold, strategic golf. Set amidst the rolling hills of Flourtown, just outside Philadelphia, the course unfolds across a landscape that seamlessly blends classic parkland aesthetics with subtle, yet demanding, topographical nuances.
Designed by the legendary A.W. Tillinghast during golf's Golden Age, Wissahickon challenges players with its expansive fairways, artfully contoured greens, and strategically placed bunkers that demand creative shot-making. Fairways may seem generous, but the course has teeth; a slight fade can be greatly rewarded, and recovery shots from the thick rough around the green are a test of nerve. The course saw a significant restoration by Keith Foster, who returned much of Tillinghast's original, aggressive character, giving modern players the challenge of a classic course.
Beyond the course's architectural merit, the Philadelphia Cricket Club fosters a unique atmosphere of camaraderie and tradition. It is one of the oldest clubs in the United States, founded in 1854 and dedicated to amateur sport. Members are known for a deep appreciation of the game's history. It's not unusual to find members engaged in spirited debates about classic course architecture while enjoying the club's renowned crab cakes.
Reviews
Awesome old vibe and great course
Amazing course. Played it from around 6,700 yards. It was challenging. I live about 4 hours away and if someone asked me to play tomorrow I would be in my car.
Wiss is fantastic and it was great to see it show off during the Truist this year. The pros echoed what has been said for a while in Philly…it might be a toss up for the title of best golf course (after Merion and PV) in the GAP. This course deserves all the praise it’s gotten and I think it’s safe to say it’s no longer under the radar.
Course was in PRISTINE condition. ruined by the canada forest fires in June '23, was fighting to finish the back 9
The Wissahickon course at PCC is a Tilly masterpiece, I can see why he had his ashes spread in the creek. Top tier greens and bunkers, carpet-like fairways and marvelous par 3’s made for an awesome day. Hope to get back out there soon.
How golf should be
this place just feels like golf - an amazing day and great walk. Challenging and fun.
