WIND WATCH GOLF & COUNTRY CLUB
🇺🇸 Hauppauge, NY, USA
Designed by Joe Lee
Wind Watch in Hauppauge stands as Long Island's challenge, a testament to Robert Trent Jones, Sr.'s enduring impact on American golf. The course, a classic example of late 20th-century parkland design, unfolds across rolling terrain, demanding strategic play over raw power. Wide fairways are misleading, with undulating greens and cleverly placed bunkers punishing errant approaches, favoring the thinking golfer over brute strength.
Jones's design philosophy is evident throughout, particularly on the par 5s which feature multiple risk/reward scenarios. The course isn't nationally renowned, however it's a staple for avid golfers on the island. It's also a popular choice for local tournaments and outings.
Beyond the golf, Wind Watch is known for its familial atmosphere. Generations of Long Islanders have enjoyed not only the challenge of the course, but the camaraderie shared in the clubhouse. A local tradition is the post-round clam bake, a testament to Long Island's coastal heritage, savored by members and guests alike.
Reviews
For a public golf course this is really solid overall. Not too expensive, decently maintained, pace of play isnt horrendous. What more could you ask for
