WILLOW CREEK GOLF & COUNTRY CLUB
🇺🇸 Mount Sinai, NY, USA
Designed by Stephen Kay

Willow Creek Golf & Country Club sits in Mount Sinai on Long Island's North Shore, where the terrain reflects the gentle rolling topography characteristic of this part of Suffolk County. Stephen Kay, a New York-based architect known for his restoration work at classic Golden Age courses and for designing layouts that respect regional landscape traditions, designed the course to work with the natural land forms rather than impose dramatic manufactured features.
The routing takes advantage of the property's existing elevation changes and wooded corridors, creating a parkland setting that feels established despite the course's relatively recent origins. Kay's design philosophy typically emphasizes strategic options from the tee and approaches that reward thoughtful course management over pure distance, and Willow Creek follows this template with hole corridors that ask players to consider angles and positioning. The greens feature modest but meaningful contours that require attention to pin placement.
As a private country club on Long Island, Willow Creek serves a membership drawn from the surrounding North Shore communities. The club offers the full range of country club amenities beyond golf, including tennis, swimming, and dining facilities that anchor the social calendar. The course provides a home-course environment where members play regularly rather than a destination layout designed primarily for outside play or tournament hosting.
Reviews
Terrible management and overpriced Went to the putting green before round and saw a guy finishing up on the range. He left 5 balls so I went to get a few practice swings in. The worker who checked me in started yelling “you didn’t pay for those balls so you can’t hit them” and made a big deal about hitting a couple of range balls. Same owners as Wind Watch which is well-known for having crappy management and staff with attitude
I expect this to go private and become a very nice course sooner than later.
