White at Buck Hill Golf Club

Buck Hill Golf Club sits in the Pocono Mountains of northeastern Pennsylvania, approximately two hours from both New York City and Philadelphia. Donald Ross designed the course in 1901, making it one of his earliest American works and among the oldest continuously operating courses in the region. The layout occupies rolling, wooded terrain at roughly 1,900 feet elevation, where the natural topography and mountain setting provide both scenic variety and strategic interest.

The course reflects Ross's early design principles, with modest greens that feature his characteristic subtle contours and strategic bunkering that rewards thoughtful placement over raw distance. The routing moves through mature hardwood forests and across hillsides that create natural elevation changes throughout the round. Several holes play along ridgelines or drop into valleys, and the mountain air and cooler temperatures at this elevation distinguish the playing conditions from courses at lower altitudes in the region.

Buck Hill Golf Club originated as part of a Quaker resort community established in the late nineteenth century, and the club retains a quiet, traditional atmosphere reflective of those origins. The course has remained relatively unchanged over its long history, preserving much of Ross's original design intent while adapting to modern maintenance practices. It serves primarily as a members' club with limited outside play, maintaining a low-key presence despite its historical significance as an early Ross design and its longevity in the Pocono region.
