COUNTRY CLUB OF BIRMINGHAM
🇺🇸 Birmingham, AL, USA
Designed by Donald Ross, P. B. Dye, Pete Dye, Robert Trent Jones Sr.
West at Country Club of Birmingham is a study in strategic evolution, its very layout a reflection of golf’s shifting demands across a century. Carved into the undulating terrain of Mountain Brook, its rolling fairways and subtly contoured greens present a classic parkland challenge. While no ocean views here, the towering oaks and meticulously maintained Bermuda grass evoke a sense of established Southern elegance, a familiar backdrop for the club's storied membership.
Originally designed by Donald Ross, the West Course has seen careful refinements over the years, adapting to modern equipment and playing styles while honoring Ross's original vision. It's a course that favors thoughtful shot-making over sheer power; strategic positioning is rewarded far more than brute force. While no major professional championships have graced its fairways, the West course is a constant test for the membership.
The club is proud to serve the community and has a long tradition of hosting local amateur events. More than just a golf course, the club features a vibrant tennis and social community, as well as fine dining.
Reviews
The West is arguably the best course in the state. It will challenge the best of golfers with tough greens, several water hazards and bunkers. The layout is spectular, the course is pristine, and the facilities are second to none. Truly, one of the best clubs in the South.
Well designed in its ability to be very fair and enjoyable for member play yet host a top mid am event on a moments notice by dialing up green speed/firmness and tossing pins on some slick knobs. Very pleasurable layout that will make you hit every club in your bag. Course conditions for NIT get drool off the chin good which is such a treat. Membership is first rate and staff goes over the top with hospitality to make guests feel welcome.
