WAVERLEY COUNTRY CLUB
🇺🇸 Portland, OR, USA
Designed by Gil Hanse, H. Chandler Egan, Jack Moffett

Waverley Country Club is where Pacific Northwest golf began, its roots intertwined with the very fabric of Portland society since 1896. Nestled along the banks of the Willamette River, this mature parkland course presents a classic, tree-lined challenge demanding strategic positioning over sheer length.
Originally designed by Chandler Egan, with significant later enhancements by Gil Hanse, Waverley asks golfers to contend with subtle doglegs and deceptively undulating greens. It favors a strategic player who can navigate the course's nuanced angles, rewarding thoughtful shot-making over brute force. Famed for their competitive nature, Waverley's members hold their own traditions and stories within the city of Portland.
Waverley has been the distinguished host to the U.S. Amateur in 1932 and 1981, the U.S. Women’s Amateur in 1964, and the U.S. Senior Women’s Amateur in 2000. While not often found on global lists, Waverley holds a place of reverence among those who appreciate a challenging and historic test of golf in the Pacific Northwest, all a stone's throw from the city's vibrant heart.
Adding to Waverley's charm is its longstanding tradition of serving Dungeness crab melts, a culinary fixture enjoyed by generations of members after a round – a uniquely Northwest touch to a classic club experience.
Reviews
The best Golden Age course in the PNW. Stunning setting in the banks of the Willamette River. A couple greens that are arguably a little too severe, but one of my favorite golf experiences and always a joy to play.
