WATERVILLE GOLF LINKS
🇮🇪 Waterville, Kerry, IE
Designed by Eddie Hackett, Tom Fazio

Waterville Golf Links, carved into the rugged Kerry coastline, stands as a testament to the enduring allure of links golf, its origins intertwined with the area's rich history. The course itself, a product of the late 19th century, meanders through towering dunes and alongside the crashing waves of the Atlantic, presenting a layout that is both breathtaking and brutally challenging.
Originally designed by Eddie Hackett and later enhanced by Tom Fazio, Waterville favors a strategic approach, rewarding thoughtful shot placement over sheer power. While not excessively long, the course demands respect, with prevailing winds and undulating fairways combining to test even the most seasoned golfer. Blind shots and cleverly placed bunkers add to the drama, ensuring that every round is a unique experience.
The spirit of Waterville extends beyond the course. Stories abound of legendary figures gracing its fairways, from presidents and movie stars to golfing royalty, all drawn to the course's raw beauty and the genuine warmth of its hospitality. It is said that Payne Stewart cherished his time at Waterville, finding solace and inspiration amidst the dramatic landscape and that the club has a habit of making everyone from pros, to visiting golfers feel they are members for a day. Its humble yet grand nature creates a welcoming environment.
Reviews
Waterville was amazing. Rained like crazy and I still loved it
Fantastic course with a lot of memorable holes. One of the most fun I have had playing golf.
The PGA Frisco of Irish links. Plenty of fun to play but does not have the historic and timeless playing characteristics of the other historic links in Ireland
Waterville is a great Irish Links in the far Southwestern part of the country. It is a beautiful drive to get there along the Ring of Kerry. The course itself felt a little repeatable to me, a lot of the holes felt the same, but it was still a great course! Definitely a must if you are doing an Irish golf trip.
It’s a nice enjoyable course. Played it twice and struggle to remember any stand out holes but having said that I do remember enjoying it. Is it better than nearby courses like Tralee and Ballybunion? No. It it worse? No. Subjective as always.
Truly great Irish links-if you get a dry windy week like I did it will be crispy. It’s super tough and makes you think about where to land/bounce the ball, you won’t be stopping many close to the pins
