WASHINGTON NATIONAL GOLF CLUB
🇺🇸 Auburn, WA, USA
Designed by John Fought, Orrin Vincent
Washington National Golf Club opened in 2000 on a former gravel quarry site in Auburn, south of Seattle. Designed by John Fought with Orrin Vincent, the course represents an ambitious land reclamation project that transformed industrial mining pits into a golf landscape. The routing takes advantage of the dramatic elevation changes and water features left behind by the quarry operations, creating a links-style layout unusual for the Pacific Northwest.
The course sits on relatively open terrain with minimal tree cover, allowing wind to play a significant role. Several holes incorporate the former quarry lakes, and the property's manufactured topography produces bold contours and steep-faced bunkers that echo traditional Scottish and Irish design. The par-72 layout stretches over 7,300 yards from the back tees, with multiple teeing grounds accommodating different skill levels. The exposed nature of the site and firm playing conditions when dry give the course a distinctly different character from the tree-lined parkland layouts common in western Washington.
Washington National has hosted various regional amateur championships and qualifiers, serving as a tournament venue for the Pacific Northwest Golf Association. The club operates as a semi-private facility, offering both membership and daily-fee play. Its location near the Seattle-Tacoma metropolitan area and proximity to major highways make it accessible to golfers throughout the Puget Sound region.
Reviews
Home of the UW Huskies, was a fun layout
It's a nice enough place, I just find it to be kind of boring and unmemorable despite playing half a dozen rounds there.
