Wandlebury at Gog Magog Golf Club

The Wandlebury course at Gog Magog Golf Club occupies elevated chalk downland southeast of Cambridge, sharing the property with the club's Old course. Willie Park Jr. laid out the original 18 holes in the early 1900s, with James Braid later contributing modifications. Martin Hawtree undertook a significant redesign in the 1990s, reshaping the layout to better utilize the natural contours and improve strategic interest. The course now presents a distinct character from its companion layout, with its own routing across the gently rolling terrain.

The land sits above Shelford Bottom, offering views across the Cambridgeshire countryside. The chalk subsoil provides firm, fast-running conditions much of the year, and the exposed position means wind often influences play. The routing moves across open ground with scattered mature trees and features several elevation changes that add variety to approach shots and create natural amphitheater settings around greens.

Gog Magog serves a membership drawn largely from Cambridge and the surrounding area, with strong university connections reflecting the city's academic character. The club maintains traditions of competitive golf, hosting regional amateur events and fostering a calendar of internal competitions. The clubhouse provides views over both courses and the broader landscape, and the club's dining and social functions reflect its role as an established institution in the Cambridge golfing community.
