Walden on Lake Conroe occupies rolling, wooded terrain in Montgomery, Texas, roughly forty miles north of Houston. Designed by Bruce Devlin and Robert von Hagge and opened in 1974, the course reflects the bold, strategic style this partnership became known for during the 1970s. The routing moves through stands of pine and hardwood, with elevation changes that are notable for the region and several holes that incorporate views of or play near Lake Conroe itself.

Devlin and von Hagge typically emphasized strong visual definition, strategic bunkering, and water hazards that force decision-making rather than simply penalizing wayward shots. At Walden, water comes into play on multiple holes, and the designers used the natural contours to create variety in stance and approach angles. The greens tend to be moderately sized with subtle to moderate undulation, rewarding accurate iron play and thoughtful course management.

The club serves as a private residential community amenity, with a membership drawn largely from the greater Houston area and residents of the Walden development. The course has hosted regional amateur events over the decades and remains a fixture in the northern Houston golf landscape.
