Walden at Walden Golf Club

Walden Golf Club occupies rolling terrain in Crofton, a planned community in Anne Arundel County between Baltimore and Annapolis. The course was originally designed by Robert Trent Jones Sr. and opened in the late 1960s as part of the residential development that defines much of Crofton's character. Jones's routing takes advantage of natural elevation changes and wooded corridors typical of the Maryland Piedmont, with holes framed by mature hardwoods and several playing across or alongside water features that add both strategic interest and visual definition to the layout.

The course underwent significant renovation work by Lindsay Ervin and Roger Rulewich, both of whom worked extensively within the Trent Jones design tradition. Rulewich in particular spent decades as Jones's lead associate before establishing his own practice, bringing deep familiarity with the original design intent. The updates modernized playing surfaces, refined bunkering, and adjusted green complexes to meet contemporary standards while preserving the fundamental character of Jones's routing and strategic concepts.

Walden functions as a semi-private facility serving both members and daily-fee play, a model that reflects its origins within a residential community. The course provides a solid test of golf in a suburban setting, with length and hazard placement that reward accurate driving and thoughtful course management. Its location makes it accessible to golfers throughout the Baltimore-Washington corridor, and it maintains a reputation as a well-conditioned layout that balances challenge with playability for a range of skill levels.
