VELLANO COUNTRY CLUB
🇺🇸 Chino Hills, CA, USA
Designed by Greg Norman
Vellano Country Club sits in the rolling hills of Chino Hills in Southern California's Inland Empire, approximately 30 miles east of Los Angeles. Greg Norman designed the course, which opened in the early 2000s as the centerpiece of a master-planned residential community. The layout takes advantage of the natural terrain, featuring elevation changes and views across the surrounding valleys and toward distant mountain ranges that characterize this transitional zone between the Los Angeles Basin and the inland valleys.
Norman's design incorporates wide fairways and large, undulating greens typical of his work from this period, with strategic bunkering that rewards placement over pure distance. The routing moves through the property's natural contours, creating a variety of hole types and approach angles. Water features come into play on several holes, and the native landscaping reflects the region's Mediterranean climate and chaparral ecosystem.
The course serves a private membership drawn largely from the surrounding residential community and nearby areas of Orange and San Bernardino counties. Vellano operates as a country club with golf as its primary amenity, complemented by typical club facilities including dining and social spaces. The layout provides a championship-length test from the back tees while offering multiple tee options to accommodate different skill levels, a characteristic of many Norman designs intended for daily member play.
