Valle Romano occupies a hillside site in the municipality of Estepona on Spain's Costa del Sol, positioned between the Mediterranean coastline and the mountainous interior of Andalucía. Cabell B. Robinson designed the course, which opened in 2010 as the centerpiece of a residential resort development. Robinson, known for his work throughout Europe and his emphasis on strategic variety, routed the layout across terrain that features significant elevation changes and natural Mediterranean vegetation including cork oaks, olive trees, and native scrubland.

The course plays across rolling topography with holes that move both up and down the hillside, creating varied perspectives and shot requirements. Several holes offer views toward the sea and the surrounding mountains. The routing incorporates the natural contours of the land, with fairways that follow the terrain's movement rather than imposing artificial shaping. Water features appear on multiple holes, and the bunkering style reflects Robinson's preference for strategic placement over purely visual impact.

Valle Romano functions as a resort facility open to outside play, serving both guests of the residential community and visiting golfers exploring the Costa del Sol's concentration of courses.
